TWEASE
"Twease [ http://twease.org/medline/app ] can automatically discover common abbreviations for search phrases (e.g., "protein kinase C" will discover PKC, PK-C, aPKC, etc.) and rewrite queries to use these abbreviations".

I have just finished exploring this search engine I recently met in the net. It has been created by the institute for computational biology and biomedicine at the The Weill Medical College of Cornell University. I found very easy and interesting the tutorial in which one can find a detailed description of how to use this tool. The interesting point is that Twease searches medline at the abstract level; this I understood from my first exploring. Abstracts of the articles are the main part of them where the terms should correspond to my specific interest. There are many other options to refine the results but as it is with the search tools one should use a specific tool for a long period of time to become familiar with it.
